My Journey Behind the Lens

A memory that stands out is when my parents bought a digital camera in the early 2000s, a Nikon COOLPIX to be exact. I remember being about 8 years old and used it to do a "photoshoot" with my younger brother. I remember having my brother lay on a beach towel for a "cool background" and had him pose for the camera. From then on, I always remembered whenever I found or saw a camera of any sort I was instantly fascinated and intrigued with it.

Fast forward to 2017, I had saved up enough money to purchase my first camera, a Canon EOS Rebel T6 kit. From then on I brought my camera with me pretty much anywhere I could. I would practice on families and friends for just $25 per session while learning settings, editing, and techniques.

This then turned into spontaneously shooting for some of my high schools sports teams for fun and practice. After the first season with the football team, I was absolutely hooked on sports photography. This then branched out into baseball, basketball, lacrosse, and eventually hockey once I started shooting for college athletic teams!

Fast forward to now, I've had the pleasure to shoot for many DI and DIII collegiate teams, high school teams, and even professional sports teams! Alongside my sports photography journey, I have a great passion for family, senior, and portrait photography. Between the thrill of capturing a game winning goal to the heartwarming "aww" moments within a family, I love the contrast between the fast-paced energy of sports and the serene beauty of portraits!

How I got here!

From the beginning I have been purely self taught, with lots and lots of trial and error. The biggest thing I kept telling myself was to "not give up", because I knew this was a real deal dream and career I knew I could grow with, not like a childhood dream of being "Bob the Builder" (yes the children's TV show).

Eventually, I would look up articles, videos, and even social media discussions on a skill or technique I was trying to grasp. A few years later, I would meet a fellow photographer while in college who ended up becoming my best friend within a matter of days. I have learned (and continue to learn) new tips and tricks from her about various aspects surrounding photography (and life)!

I thank god for the people I have met between colleagues, families, and athletes, for the memories I have had and been able to capture, and for giving me such a passion that I would not know what to do without!
